BMW has long been known for its precision performance and attention to detail throughout the automotive world. Starting its roots in Germany and now expanding across the globe, BMW makes some of the very finest luxury automobiles in the world. Their 5 Series is no different, as it has historically won many awards. There are some differences between the 2018 BMW 5 Series and the 2019 5 Series, so let’s explore the various performance, appearance and feature upgrades that BMW has created!
Recommending unleaded premium fuel on a turbo four-cylinder 2.0L engine with an eight-speed automatic Steptronic transmission, the 2019 530i achieves 248 horsepower at 5200 revolutions per minute. With a rear-wheel-drive transmission and a seating capacity of five people, the 530i delivers 24 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. Its fuel economy is so good that it won MotorTrend’s 2019 SmartChoice Fuel Costs Luxury Passenger Car award. The 540i has an even sportier performance with 340hp and does zero to 100 in 5.1 seconds flat. The 2018 5 series was no different than the 2019 530i in terms of horsepower, torque, and fuel economy as the 2019 engine is the same as last year’s model.
Upgrades to the 2019 BMW 5 Series mainly revolve around its appearance and features. For the first time ever in a five series, the headlights are integrated seamlessly into the “kidney grille”: a sleek-looking grill which can open and close on demand to increase fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, giving the 2019 5 series a coefficient drag of just 0.22. Doing this has given the 5 Series a broader and sportier stance on the pavement. One of the most modern exterior body upgrades in the 2019 model is the body trim line which starts in the font in the shadows and ends up at the end to be seen in the light!
First and foremost, the 2019 BMW 5 Series utilizes an aluminum design for a weight reduction savings of 100kg or 220 pounds compared to the 2018 model. One other cool feature of the 2019 5 Series is that it usually has three modes: Sport, Comfort, and Eco Pro. This time around, BMW has decided to integrate a mode called “Adaptive” which remembers your driving habits and combines them all into a bespoke mode which reflects your driving habits in terms of velocity, steering wheel movement, and navigation preferences. Now one feature which both models have in common in the popular gesture control, where drivers wave their fingers in the air to command functions such as audio levels. With the 2019 model, BMW has opted to improve its voice command abilities over last year’s capabilities. Moreover, the 2019 model has full wireless capabilities on top of the ever-so-popular wireless charging port in the 2018 5 Series (which the 2019 5 Series does have, too).
If any of these exciting features struck a chord with you, we cordially invite you to contact us or head on down to Hansel BMW of Santa Rosa to test drive and explore the incredible safety, luxury and amenities that the 5 Series holds.
